Watamu, "sweet people" in Swahili, is a seaside resort which lies on a small headland on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. The shoreline is arranged in three bays: Watamu Bay, Blue Lagoon and Turtle Bay. The lovely Watamu beach is.....located 120 km North of Mombasa: its clean fine `flour` sand, sparkling water and gorgeous setting make a walk along the tranquil shores of the Indian Ocean really fantastic. The activities on the beach, the picturesque beauty, the ancient historical sites and the fascinating local culture make it a photographer's dream and a bird-lover's paradise.

The nearby Watamu village is a Swahili (or Bajuni) fishing village that has grown into a small beach resort over the years. The area is now populated by a mixture of cultures which harmoniously live together maintaining the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this village rightly considered the pearl of Kenya’s coast.
